The opportunity

Across the world, the natural environment needs repair: soils, water systems, forests, coastlines and the air we breathe. At the same time, many communities need meaningful work, new enterprise and investment that lasts.

Renaissance 2.0 proposes that these two needs can be met together. Environmental rejuvenation, approached as a sustained programme of practical projects, can become a source of innovation and prosperity.

1 · Environmental Economy

The economic direction of the plan. It describes how enterprise, investment and employment can be developed through activities that help improve the environment — from restoration and resource recovery to the technologies, services and skills that support them.

2 · Global Project Plan

The practical framework. It helps turn environmental problems and opportunities into projects that suit local conditions, existing capabilities and available resources. It is designed to be applied at many scales, from a single community initiative to regional programmes.

  • Identify a local environmental need or opportunity.
  • Map the people, skills, finance and equipment that could address it.
  • Shape a project suited to local needs and capabilities.
  • Share what is learned so others can build on it.

3 · ForceField & Unity

People working together. ForceField is about awareness and shared experience; Unity is the service through which independent participants can, over time, find useful connections — someone with a project idea finding an engineer, funding or equipment, or someone with experience finding a project that needs it.

How it develops

Renaissance 2.0 starts with information and registration of interest. Later stages could add optional profiles, needs and offers, and tools that help participants discover each other. Participants keep control of their details and choose if and when to share them.
